Crime against ants
We've got ant infestation in our house. These little buggers are everywhere! I always tell my kid that he shouldn't kill ants. They are living things after all. BUT I committed genocide covering their nests, or ants' houses as my son calls them, in our garden with white ant killer powder. And I massacred them with my Dyson. I am a hypocrite. | | Friday, April 17th, 2009 | | 9:53 pm |
Portobello road market - disappear???
A friend of mine in Japan told me that the Portobello Road market would disappear soon. Is it true? I am disparately trying to find any information, but no luck so far. I love the market and will be very sad if it will go. As it is such a popular market I cannot imagine it really disappears. If you know anything about it, please, please let me know! | | Friday, March 6th, 2009 | | 1:53 pm |
Roomba and kittens
A friend of mine in Japan bought Roomba, a robotic vacuum cleaner. She said it was really cute and the fact that it is not perfect made it charming. When it is running out of battery, it runs out of puff and totters back to the base for recharge. The sensor is not very good and sometimes she finds it hanging at the edge of a step or stranded on a corner of a furniture. But, she said, it is like a pet. She loves it. Here is a very *cute* movie for you. LOL http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=GTxW3GWZ5hII want one, too! I wonder how our cats will react, though... | | Saturday, February 7th, 2009 | | 10:22 am |

Going Postal
Lee's reading Terry Pratchett's Going Postal for K. And K believes it is a Postman Pat story. Bless. | | Thursday, August 28th, 2008 | | 11:42 am |
Side effect of potty training
I started K's potty training. K's two years and seven months now and as we are having relatively event-free time until he starts pre-school in October I thought it was a good time to start. It's been a whole week now and although more miss than hit (or rather mostly miss with occasional lucky strikes) the fact that he needs to wee only three times between 8:30 and 19:30 in the evening makes my life much easier than I anticipated. Having said that, the side effect came from an unexpected source. Last two days or so I sat down and thought 'god it's smelly'. I wipe the carpet with a disinfectant spray soon after the accidents so the smell shouldn't come from that. It was the cat. It must be the black and white one who probably detected the trace of urine and felt his territory threatened. He's marking the carpet. Oh no.... | | Tuesday, July 15th, 2008 | | 8:43 am |

The cat's back!
He just popped his head over the French window asking me to let him in. I just couldn't believe it! I was so excited and called his name is such a high tone voice that he was alarmed. But, once he's in the house, he just so desperately wanted food and affection. He seems fine - no injury or anything. Thank you everyone for your thoughts! I am over the moon! Cat search
Lee made flyers yesterday so I photocopied it and put them through letterboxes of our neighbours. There is a pre-prep school behind our garden so I went there to see whether the cat was trapped in the garden. But there was no answer. I checked on the internet and found out that their term wouldn't start until 15th April. A whole week from now! So I rang the next door, which I thought was a house of the headteacher's - I read somewhere that she was living in the same premises. It turned out to be the people living there was nothing to do with the school. The lady took me and Kei though the house to the garden. The garden is large and it is adjacent to ours. Apparently the cat spent most of the time in their garden pestering birds and acting as if the garden belonged to him. When the people are there, he looked at them as if to say 'get lost'. Apparently he was 'very aggressive' and a bit of a nuisance to them. Mmmm I discovered another face of my cat's. Anyway, I called his name and we searched him but there was no sign. They are nice people and funny thing is that their daughter-in-law is Japanese and she has a daughter only a year older than K. 'Perhaps next time they are around, we will invite you over.' How nice! So, another day without Fishbed. We still call him at mealtime and at night just in case he hears us. I'm feeling that is more and more futile. But you never know, do you? He hears our voice and might find his way back home. Missing a cat is hard enough. It must be really difficult if a child is missing. Copy Cat
When I was in Japan, I found copies of 'Musti' series on my mother's shelf. Musti is a cat character originally in a cartoon series on the Belgian (I think) television. I've never seen the cartoon series, but the books were my and my sister's favourite. I read them again to K and found that I still love them. I love the gentle story lines and the language. Mind you, I'm reading them in Japanese and for I know, it was the translator's language that is good. In fact, I found the Musti website and saw a clip of the cartoon that was dubbed in American - it sounds wrong! Well, of course because Musti I know is not a cartoon character but a book character, even if I see it in Japanese, it'll sound wrong, I know. Anyway, Musti is remarkably like Hello Kitty. In fact it is obvious that Hello Kitty is the rip-off. Well, OK, Musti is remarkably like Miffy, too. I found an interesting discussion about the subject: http://xogij.blogs.com/xogij/2004/09/copycat.htmlBut don't forget. Apparently Musti was first created in 1945, Miffy in 1955 and Hello Kitty in 1974. | | Monday, December 10th, 2007 | | 8:15 pm |
